HOW DO I MAKE MENORAH PARK, STONE GARDENS, OR THE R.H. MYERS APARTMENTS
THE RECIPIENT OF GIFTS IN MEMORY OF MY FAMILY MEMBER?
At the time a family member passes away, many families select Menorah Park, Stone Gardens
or The R.H. Myers Apartments as the recipient of memorial contributions. When contributions are
received, we acknowledge the donor and send the family members a card letting them know a
contribution was made and by whom. We do not disclose the amounts of any memorial gifts.
Simply ask the funeral home to include the line, "in lieu of flowers, please send contributions
to either Menorah Park, Stone Gardens or The R.H. Myers Apartments" in the obituary in the newspaper.
HOW IS THE MONEY CONTRIBUTED USED?
Almost, any way you wish.
If cumulatively, the contributions are in excess of $250, the family of the person in whose memory
the gifts are made will be contacted by the staff of the Menorah Park Foundation so that together,
they can select how the contributions will be used.
It is our goal to work with each family to use the funds in a way that is meaningful to them and
beneficial to Menorah Park, Stone Gardens or The R.H. Myers Apartments.
If the contributions are less than $250, they are deposited into Menorah Park's, Stone Gardens' or
The R.H. Myers Apartments' general fund where they are pooled with other contributions and used for
purposes to enhance the quality of life of our residents.
At any time, families may add to the amount contributed by friends to establish a Donor-Restricted
Fund in the name of the deceased family member or pay for a special program or piece of equipment in their name.
WHAT ARE SOME WAYS OUR FAMILY COULD EARMARK THE MONEY?
Most families have a particular interest in one department or area of Menorah Park, Stone Gardens or
R.H. Myers Apartments that held special meaning for their family member. It may be music therapy, the
nature center, intergenerational or Judaic programs, activities, volunteers, WLAS radio or any other
program. If families earmark contributions for a particular area, we will purchase equipment or provide
a special program in that area.
Bronze Yahrzeit plaques in the Sapirstein Synagogue at Menorah Park are available for $500.
Still other families have established Donor-Restricted Funds to memorialize their family members.
Our Foundation office will help you determine what type of fund would be most appropriate for your family.
WHAT IS A DONOR-RESTRICTED FUND?
A Donor-Restricted Fund is a special fund in the Menorah Park Foundation established by a single
donor or family who would like to earmark their contributions for a special purpose. Donor-Restricted
Funds generally carry the name of an individual or family and/or the purpose for which the Fund exists.
For example, "The Rose Schwartz Memorial Children's Fund."
Donors who establish Funds are kept involved and informed of their Fund's activity and receive a
semi-annual report detailing the Fund's contributions and expenditures. Donors who are able, are
encouraged to attend events and programs sponsored by their fund.
The name of each Donor-Restricted Fund is added to Menorah Park's BUILDERS OF OUR FUTURE
recognition wall. The funds are in perpetuity, as are the purposes.
HOW DO I PICK A PURPOSE FOR MY FUND?
Fund purposes are selected by the donor and the staff of the Menorah Park Foundation. Together,
they explore the interests of the donor and the needs of Menorah Park, Stone Gardens or The R.H. Myers
Apartments or one of it's program components.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO START A DONOR RESTRICTED FUND?
The minimum to establish a fund is $5,000. However, it is not necessary to contribute the entire
amount at once. Many funds are earmarked and purposes "reserved" before the fund reaches the $5,000 mark.
Most families pool contributions made in memory of their family member, funds remaining in the family
member's resident bank account and additional family contributions to reach the $5,000 level.
OUR FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO SHOW THEIR APPRECIATION TO THE EMPLOYEES. WHAT CAN WE DO?
In appreciation for the care of family members, some families want to thank the staff of a particular
nursing pavilion or department. Monetary gifts to our staff are not permissible and we ask families to
abide by our request. Menorah Park, Stone Gardens and R.H. Myers Apartments do have an Employee Gift Fund
which was created to allow families to express their thanks with a cash gift. Gifts received are equally
divided among all non-executive staff as a bonus during the holiday season.
On occasion, families have wanted to send cookie or candy trays to a particular building or nursing
pavilion. Because Menorah Park, Stone Gardens and R.H. Myers Apartments are strictly kosher, we ask that
families do not bring any food into any of the buildings. If they would like to order a tray for the staff,
please contact the Volunteer Department of Menorah Park.
Because many families want to honor the staff and residents, they earmark memorial contributions for
something special that would benefit that area. The Foundation office will work with you to purchase something
that would be meaningful to the residents.
HOW DO I PURCHASE A MEMORIAL PLAQUE IN MEMORY OF MY FAMILY MEMBER?
Menorah Park observes the Yahrzeit of every former resident. The Home also lights a single commemorative
candle in the synagogue in observance of those for whom Yahrzeit is observed.
If families want a permanent memorial, they can purchase a bronze plaque which will be hung in Menorah
Park's Jennie & Jacob Sapirstein Synagogue. Each plaque has an individual's English and Hebrew name along
with their date of death. Space may also be reserved on the Memorial Wall. The cost of a plaque is $500.
